A vicious attack by the outlawed terror gang Sungu Sungu occurred on Friday night at Masimba Village Kisii County, senselessly killing a Mr. Monari Masagara leaving the villagers in utter shock.
According to local sources, its alleged that Mr Monari bought a piece of land from Mr Jackson Matingei who is suspected to be a member of Sungu Sungu. For almost a year now, both have been having disagreement on how to close land deal conclusively down and the title deed transferred to Mr. Monari. Its understood that Mr. Matingei was unwilling to sign the land transfer documents after being paid the agreed price and fees leaving Mr. Monari with no option but to report the matter to the area police.
A relative, who sought anonymity, said that when Monari decided to get help from the police the move angered Matingei who started to threatening him. Matingei preferred the matter to be taken to Sungu Sungu who arbitrates this kind of cases
On Friday last week before midnight the Sungu Sungu invaded the home of Mr. Monari broke in to his house using crude weapon and drugged him outside and hacked him to death after accusing him of Witchcraft.
“Witchcraft and stealing has been effectively used by this group to intimidate or eliminate the people whom they disagree with or they don’t want” said one of the villager. “Honestly no body can convince us that Monari was a witchcraft, we all know who he is, he loved people and adding value to the community was his daily commitment…people loved him”
This is not the first case of Sungu Sungu killing on accusation ground effectively making residence to be manipulated by this group. Police protecting is not an option, you have to be vigilante and always ready to protect yourself but that is not enough. We need government protection because we pay taxes to the same government. Resident are always unproductive unless you get to be associated to this group” said a resident who sough anonymity.
The family of Mr. Monari is in deep pain and trying to come in to terms to what happened to their loved one and are now living in fear. At the time of writing the story there was no official statement from the area police.
