President Uhuru landed at Nyamira Primary, the town is empty with no activities common with the presence of a head of state. In the picture you see the president’s car driving in an empty street with no cheers from the public. Nyamira Primary school borders the hospital, only 1km ride yet only about 70 people joined the police and county government officials to welcome the president.
There were more vehicles than people in the streets.
Uhuru will proceed to Nyamira District Hospital where he is expected to upgrade it to a Level 5. The President will then commission Kebirigo-Mosobeti road and finally open Ekerubo Gietai polytechnic in Kitutu Masaba constituency.
A local resident and leading opinion leader Tony Moturi had this to say about the President’s visit:
Welcome to Nyamira County President Uhuru Kenyatta. While you are airborne kindly note the following:
From media reports I gather that you will be commissioning the upgrade of Nyamira Hospital to a level 5 or a referral status. Kindly note that a hospital in name without medical facilities is like a monkey with a loaded gun.
I’m reliably informed that you will be commissioning the Kebirigo- Metamaywa road which was contracted in 2012 under the Grand Coalition Government. The road, being a national government project has stalled not sure if change of regime had a hand in it. In any case I’m lost on what you will be commissioning here- road construction that is halfway done or “completion? ”
Recently, when touring the counties of Kiambu and Nyandarua you apportioned County projects to the success of Jubilee Government. I’m also seeing the same trend being repeated in opening a village polytechnic and commissioning a water project that are in the province of County Governments. This surely undermines Article 6(2) of our Constitution.
Your Excellency, Nyamira County is predominantly an agricultural area and its mainstay is tea farming. Your trip comes after the sh. 1billion miraa bailout. Our farmers look forward to hear what your government has in store for them on the dwindling tea bonuses.
In your 2015 State of the Nation Address, you indicated that your Government had set aside sh 10bn for restorative justice. Mr. President, I wish to bring to your attention that people of Nyamira have been visited with effects of Post Election violence right form 1992, 1997 & 2008. They have never received any form of compensation nor have they gone back to their farms. I trust you have an agenda for them.
