That William Samoei Ruto is a scheming and a shrewd politician is no longer in doubt. Any soul that might still be standing on the island of doubt about the above proposition should for the last time vacate it by consulting the Jubilee primaries for answers. It’s alleged that like an Octopus, his tentacles of influence was spread across the entire process. Those he favoured, its been said, won the primaries hands down.
In fact, one of the incumbents in a neighbouring county lamented how the race had been decided long before it even started. He said that someone didn’t want him to be Governor and that’s why he was frustrated. He said that as a potential heir of the massive GEMA vote basket, he was a ‘weed’ that needed urgent uprooting.
The rumour mills then alluded that number two was the man who had allegedly influenced his gubernatorial race which he conceded at noon. As to whether the rumours are true or false I will leave to your own judgment.
In Nairobi County, the pundits hypothesised that the former Gatanga MP had gotten favours with the highest office in the land but number two did not want to hear any of that. It’s alleged that the second in command stayed put to ensure that his favourite candidate who is seen by many as an unpolished goon won the primaries. A few days after the victory, he accompanied them to a press conference where he was the first one to endorse the duo.
Two questions come to mind, if a section of the party believed that Gidion Mbuvi Sonko is not fit to be installed as the gubernatorial candidate for Nairobi in the Jubilee party, who led the internal coup to achieve the contrary? While his popularity cannot be questioned, why was there a need to look for a deputy governor whose role would be to cleanse the perceived sins of the ‘potty mouthed, wall punching’ fellow?
Let me tell you a story from the holy book.
The book of Mathew, chapter 2 from verse 1-8 says;
“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the
When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea.
Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” End of quote.
Only that in the depth of his heart, Herod had no intention whatsoever to pay homage to the newborn king. His wicked scheme was to unleash terror on the Jesus and crush the hopes of a nation by killing the newborn king. But because God was in charge, his plans failed spectacualarly.
Where am I headed with this story?
Believe it or not, Dr. Evans Kidero is a serious contender for the seat of the Presidency not in a so distant future. Once Raila Odinga is done with his term as the fifth president of the Republic of Kenya, the reliable & passionate vote basket of Luo Nyanza will be in his fold because he will be the senior most politician from Luo Nyanza.
Being the former Governor of the city that contributes 60% of the revenues to the nation, he will have a say in city politics catapulting him to the league of a National politician. Coupled with his business acumen and the fact that Dr Kidero can easily be trusted by the elite, the business community and the key decision makers in the country, he is a potential candidate for the presidency.
He has deep pockets with a wide network and he is extremely smart. These unique qualities will catapult him to be a possible contender for the seat of the Presidency.
That’s a dangerous man for a politician who has tried in vain to break the tag of a ‘Rift Valley politician’. The deputy president has never appealed beyond the Kalenjin nation. In fact, pundits say that should the Mount Kenya region fail to ‘return the favour’, and they surely will, he will only get votes from his backyard.
Secondly, Peter Kenneth had to be frustrated because he is a ‘dangerous’ man. The son of Gatanga was touted as the formidable heir of the vast GEMA vote basket. He only needs a ‘few friendly’ tribes to join hands with and the DP can forget about the presidency.
Peter Kenneth doesn’t look like a typical Kikuyu and has an ability to appeal to an audience beyond Mount Kenya. This one quality makes him more ‘dangerous’ than a nuclear warhead. He had to be crushed.
Politicians who are insecure about their influence have mastered the Herod’s tactic: Scan the political environment, ‘kill’ the career of potential rivals before they blossom, sit back, relax and wait to rule. That’s why the politics of Kiambu, Nairobi and Mombasa had to be interfered with so that perceived competition is eradicated once and for all.
The radical surgery to remove future kings had to start in the city.
The question is, will the people of Nairobi, Mombasa and Kiambu allow insecure leaders to install people who have questionable characters for their own selfish interests? I don’t think so.
Kidero tano tena. Kabogo tano tena. Joho tano tena!
