WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU, AHMED ISSACK HASSAN?
By Eliud Owalo
Bwana Ahmed Issack Hassan, I’m shocked, infact dumbfounded to learn that you are opposed to the creation of a new voter register, yet you know in your heart of hearts that there was no single official voter register during the 2013 General Elections.Whether by design or otherwise, this still remains squarely in your court, personally as the accountable and responsibility centre;and collectively as a Comission, to explain to Kenyans.
There were not less than three voter registers during the last elections. You released a voter register on 18th December 2012 giving a provisional figure of 14,340,036 registered voters in total. Then you released another one on 24th February 2013, this time giving the total number of registered voters as 14,352,445. Subsequently, you released another afterthought voter register in quick succession through a CD circulated to Political Parties this time giving the total number of registered voters as 14,336,546 on 2nd March 2013, for reasons best known to yourself.
Astonishingly, on 28th March 2014 during the Supreme Court Presidential Petition, IEBC again varied the figures of the total number of registered voters to 14,352,536 as clearly espoused on Page 28 Paragrah 74 of the Supreme Court Ruling. Then unashamedly on 18th July 2013 while appearing before the relevant Parliamentary Committee, you again in your wisdom varied the figures to 14,388,781.
To date,IEBC under your leadership has not accounted for these glaring inconsistencies and conspicous contradictions.
Yet now when Kenyans talk of the imperative need for a single OFFICIAL “harmonized” “New” Voter, Register, to be utilized in the 2017 electionsyou casually dismiss the proposal with disdain?
I am now more than convinced that for narrow, parochial and egocentric reasons, you have decided to totally throw professionalism out of the window, and to you, so long as whatever intentions you desire to achieve is realized-what come may!
,
Are you aware that such careless statements from a constitutional office holder like yourself not only leads to total loss of any little confidence that Kenyans may still be having in the IEBC but can also totally reverse the democratic gains that we have realized as a Country over the past two decades?
I’m now more than convinced that your time is up.Tafadhali funga virago uende Nyumbani. Punda Amechoka
And over and above your now overdue departure, get it from me that history will judge you very harshly.
