We will not extend the currency conversion deadline- CBK warns Ruto cartels

Date:

Central Bank Governor Dr Patrick Njoroge has insisted that the deadline for phasing out of the old Sh1000 noted remains September 30.

Speaking in Kwale on Friday, Dr Njoroge said that the monetary regulator has no plans to extend the deadline as speculated on media and other platforms.

He noted that all old banknotes will be rendered useless when that date elapses.

Njoroge asked all Kenyans to stick to the deadline to avoid any form of confusion that is likely to arise. He reiterated that the government had good plans when it introduced the new notes.

“I want you to take this message to every corner of the country that people have to dispose off their old Sh1,000 bank notes by September 30. We shall not extend the period,” Njoroge said.

Njoroge also unveiled the campaign dubbed “Badilisha Noti Za Elfu Moja Sasa”, in a bid to ensure all the old notes have been removed from the market.

He also said that the new notes have unique features such as a watermark.

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, who was also present during the event, promised to ensure residents are educated on the replacement of the new notes.
