CS Matiangi orders crackdown over issuance of ID and Passports

Date:

Interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi has issued a new directive concerning the issuance of ID cards, passports and birth and death certificates in Nairobi.

Matiang’i on Wednesday, January 15, announced that as from July 1, key documents including national identity cards, passports, birth and death certificates would be processed and issued to applicants on the same day they are formally sought.

But Matiangi noted that applications originating from outside Nairobi and abroad will take some days.

The CS directed the Principal Secretary responsible for Citizen Services to ensure strict and un-compromised adherence to the Service Charters of government departments.

“We cannot be expected to be the provider of solutions yet be deemed to be the greatest source of pain. This must and shall stop! Change in our processes, procedures and attitude cannot be overemphasized.”
