In the photo, Njoroge Lempaa (a Kikuyu by tribe) cried when Raila took to the podium, indeed all Kenyans are suffering under Jubilee. Change is inevitable.
Emotions were high in Naivasha as locals gave Raila and NASA brigade a heroic reception. Some locals openly cried upon setting their eyes on Raila as he moved forward to make his speech.
Naivasha sub county is inhabited by mainly Masai, Kikuyu and Kalenjins. The rally was packed to capacity.
Raila in his address asked President Uhuru vacate office peacefully “if it is (presidency) too hot” for him.
The former prime minister the ongoing standard gauge railway (SGR) was diverted to Naivasha to benefit the First Family. Raila said that the dry port and the line through which the SGR would pass was land owned by President Uhuru and his family.
Raila noted that the original SGR route was meant to be constructed from Mombasa to Nairobi and then direct to Kisumu. “The move to divert the SGR to Naivasha is meant benefit the Uhuru family which owns the land where the industrial park will be located,” he said.
Raila questioned the rationale to construct the dry port in Naivasha noting that the lakeside town did not even have an airport. “When Kibaki and I gave nod to the project, it was meant to start from Mombasa to Kisumu but due to some poor leadership it has been diverted to Naivasha,” he said.
Raila chided Jubilee for failing to settle all the IDPs despite the allocation of funds.
“I am telling my brother Uhuru that he is the President and must act like one. If the presidency is too hot for him, let him go home and let me show him leadership,” Raila said during campaigns in Naivasha on Wednesday.
“Naivasha is among areas that were badly affected during the 2007/8 post election violence. Every time we recall how a family of 11 was burnt to death, our hearts are troubled.”
The Opposition leader promised to resettle all IDPs if he wins the August 8 polls.
“It is so unfortunate that almost 10 years down the line, those who were displaced and their property destroyed are yet to be compensated,” he added.
He promised to liberate flower farm workers from “modern slavery” by creating industrial security to prioritise their welfare.
Raila also hit at the Jubilee administration for failing to cater to the area’s development.
“All Jubilee is interested in is land grabbing. Don’t be lied to that the SGR will benefit you. It is passing through private lands owned by Jubilee and we know this.”
Raila said the initial plan for the Standard Gauge Railway was that it runs from Mombasa to Kisumu through Naivasha but Jubilee hijacked the plan for it to end in Naivasha.
“We wanted this SGR to run to where there is a port and an International airport but Jubilee’s greed has changed the entire thing,” he said.
He also laughed at Uhuru and Ruto for taking offense after he told Kajiado residents not to sell their ancestral land.
“When I talk about land they tremble because they know their deals in lands,” he said.
Raila further said Uhuru has displayed poor leadership and should leave.
“This government has been operating on residual energy of the Raila-Kibaki grand coalition government but it is evident the energy has been exhausted.”
