DP William Ruto camp is now backing WIPER party’s hon Mawathe in the upcoming Embakasi South constituency. The by election follows court of appeal ruling in favour of ODM’s Nirshad Sumra petition challenging election of hon Mawathe.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s party Jubilee withdrew from the by election thus leaving NASA coalition to field a candidate considering the area is a NASA stronghold.
Gatundu South MP Hon Moses Kuria is leading a team of team tanga tanga sympathizers that includes Starehe MP Hon Njaua aka Jaguar, Hon George Theuri (Embakasi West) , Hon Simon Mbugua (EALA) and Hon Makali Mulu (Kitui Central). It was a surprise when the former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama also showed up to support the Wiper candidate in what is seen as a soft endorsement by the Kamba community not to humiliate their son. It is however expected that Kalonzo Musyoka will back off campaigns to avoid embarrassment as it is widely expected that Hon Sumra will win.
The by election is another opportunity for DP Ruto to test waters on the strength of his Tanga Tanga movement in readiness for 2022.
Sources close to the mps have told kenya today that its a test between Ruto’s men and Raila Odinga.
