State House Spokesperson’s Bodyguard Shoots Man Dead in Kawangware

Date:

A police officer attached to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed has been accused of fatally shooting a man in Kawangware, Nairobi, on Sunday night after an argument over a pool game.

The officer allegedly fired multiple shots at 35-year-old Amos Lagat, hitting him in the stomach and chest at close range. Witnesses say the confrontation began after Lagat won a bet at a pub in the Amboseli area.

According to locals, the officer appeared agitated after losing the game. An argument broke out, leading to the shooting. Witnesses claim Lagat was unarmed and did not pose any threat when the officer opened fire.

After the incident, the officer reported to Muthangari Police Station, claiming that three unknown men had attempted to snatch his Ceska pistol. He alleged that he struggled with one of them before retrieving his weapon and firing in the air as he fled.

However, officers who visited the scene found that Lagat had been shot multiple times, contradicting the officer’s version of events. Lagat was rushed to Mary Immaculate Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was later moved to Chiromo Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

The officer, who later sought treatment for a hand fracture and shoulder injury, surrendered his firearm with three rounds of ammunition still in the magazine.

Detectives have launched investigations into the shooting. However, residents have expressed outrage, accusing the officer of abusing his authority to intimidate locals. There are also growing concerns over possible interference in the case, with reports that some officials may be trying to downplay the incident.
