President Ruto Hands Over 1,080 Affordable Housing Units in Mukuru
On May 20, 2025, President William Ruto officially handed over 1,080 affordable housing units to beneficiaries in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Nairobi. This event marked a significant milestone in the government’s Affordable Housing Programme, a key component of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
The Mukuru project, spanning 56 acres, is Kenya’s largest affordable housing initiative, comprising a total of 13,248 units. The development includes bedsitters, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, offered under a rent-to-own model with monthly payments ranging from Ksh 3,900 to Ksh 5,000. These homes cater to various income groups, aiming to provide dignified and affordable living spaces for all Kenyans.
During the handover ceremony, President Ruto expressed his commitment to transforming informal settlements into modern estates, stating, “We are not just building houses; we are restoring dignity and giving families a fresh start.” He also emphasized the project’s role in job creation and economic growth, noting that it has injected Ksh 11 billion into the economy through construction and neighborhood development.
The President’s remarks were met with enthusiasm from the beneficiaries and local residents, who welcomed the initiative as a step towards improved living conditions and community development.
