When friendship is based on shared values and a mutual desire for leadership based on integrity and justice, nothing can change it. You also don’t need to be president to be celebrated by the high and mighty.
It would have been easy for Maghufuli to shun his friend for fear that it would cause diplomatic issues with Kenya, or to sideline him because he is now a president and his friend is not. Instead, he has shown the world that bilateral relations and the presidency cannot come between him and his bossom friend.
These are the good things that money can’t buy. That power can’t give you. That even bottles of whisky won’t give you. Integrity. Values.
