Deputy President William Ruto is not guaranteed of support from Mt Kenya in his 2022 presidential bid. National Assembly Minority Leader Jakoyo Midiwo dismissed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s promise that voters from the region will reciprocate Ruto’s support to him as just a wish.
Midiwo who spoke in Kuresoi South Constituency, Nakuru County, gave an example of retired president Daniel Moi who he said was given a lot of trouble by ‘Mt Kenya Mafia’ which was determined to block him from succeeding Jomo Kenyatta.
“People of Rift Valley, especially the Kalenjin community, should be very careful when dealing with their friends from Mt Kenya. You must learn from history because the Deputy President is not guaranteed the presidency in 2022. Kalenjin must reach out to other communities,” said the Gem MP during a fundraiser in aid of a local church.
“It is wrong for leaders to try ascending to power by lying to others,” said Midiwo who was accompanied by area MP Zakayo Cheruiyot. Cheruiyot called on leaders to unite Kenyan instead of dividing them along tribal lines.
