Deputy president William Ruto has on Friday ruled out direct nominations in the Jubilee party. His pronouncement comes after Uhuru’s kin sponsored five Nairobi Jubilee MPs led by hon Maina Kamanda who STORMED the DP’s office and warned him to stop project Eugene Wamalwa for governor before it gains momentum.
DP Ruto now says endorsement of candidates is undemocratic, adding that every candidate should “carry [their] own cross and seek votes”.
“Let no one lie to you that we have endorsed anybody for any seat. There is no room for endorsement in Jubilee,” Ruto added.
This comes against a backdrop of reports that Water CS Eugene Wamalwa has been endorsed for Nairobi’s governor’s seat.
On Sunday last weeek, a section of Jubilee MPs publicly announced their support for the CS.\
Nairobi senator Mike Sonkoa front runner in the jubilee nominations for Nairobi governor had also threatened to decamp Jubilee if DP Ruto’s continues his silent push for Eugene wamalwa to be Jubilee flag bearer in 2017.
“Neither President Uhuru Kenyatta nor I have any candidate for any seat in next year’s elections,” Ruto said.
He said everybody has a right to seek any seat in any part of the country because that is the nature of democracy.
He added: “We are a democratic party that believes that the membership of our party will decide on every leader.”
The DP was speaking during a fundraiser at Kong’asis Primary School.
For those who know DP Ruto well will agree that this is a tactical retreat before he strikes back with a grand plan that will do a blow to Bett Mugo’s son inlaw- Dennis Waweru and his Mt Kenya band.
