While making his remarks at John Keen burial Ceremony, Raila Odinga challenged Uhuru Kenyatta to implement the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) report in order to address historical injustices especially on minority groups like Masai (land rights).
Raila narrated to mouners how he first met the late John Keen and also why he remained his friend till his death last week- both were against injustices.
Raila also asked Uhuru to ensure a peaceful election and even went further to order CS Nkaissery to keep weapons in the barracks and let all leaders sale their policies/manifesto freely.
Raila warned Uhuru against pushing for amendments in the Election Laws Amendment Act 2016 for it will lead to rigging and likely bloodshed.
MEANWHILE:>> The Maa have reacted with disdain and scorn following President Uhuru’s refusal to forward the name of Tekuro Ole Kina as IEBC Chair nominee.
While the selection panel nominated both Ole Kina and Wafula Chebukati, Kina had emerged top of the list (scored higher than Chebukati) during the interviews. President Uhuru picked Chebukati.
The same trend of picking less qualified candidates and leaving those who scored high was replicated in appointment of commission members (see my earlier post).
Having been the only/sole nominee from a minority group, Ole Kina deserved the slot (he already earned it).
At the burial of ex-minister John Keen, Jubilee Maa MPs were at pains to explain how this happened.
Now there are attempts to remove Chebukati. Jubilee MPs have been directed to poke holes in his integrity; and the parliamentary process will be very interesting to follow.
