”ODM Nominations Will Be Free and Fair”- Raila Assures Coast ODM Aspirants

Date:

By Raila Odinga

COAST ODM ASPIRANTS MEETING

This afternoon, I chaired a consultative meeting between all Coast ODM aspirants and the National Elections Board led by Chairlady Hon Judy Pareno.

I, as the Party Leader of the Orange Democratic Movement, have not received the party nomination ticket to contest the Presidency; I therefore wish to assure all those interested in our party ticket that there are no sacred cows. Everybody, including myself, shall be subjected to a democratic process.

I have taken note of the concerns of aspirants regarding favoritism by influential persons in the party. However, such favoritism shall not matter as the sole entity mandated to oversee our party nominations is the Party National Elections Board.

In 2013, ODM faced a barrage of criticism regarding the nomination process. However, it is important to remember that our party was the only political entity in the whole republic that had branches and sub-branches and actually conducted a vote to choose candidates for the General Election. Democracy is not instant coffee; it is a process to which we remain committed. We will do our very best to ensure that those who carry the party flag are indeed the choice of the people.
