The musician, who was on a recording tour in Nairobi, collapsed on Friday and was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital in Kasarani, Nairobi, his producer Tabu Osusa has said.
Fan Fan might have succumbed to a heart attack he suffered while in his apartment along Thika Superhighway, his death was so abrupt and that it left his relatives in shock.
“We are still in shock and we are making arrangements to have him taken to a decent Morgue as we reach out to relations,” his producer Tabu Osusa told reporters.
Distraught fans took to social media to mourn the fallen legend stating that they would forever miss him and will always cherish his songs.
“I regard him as one of Africa’s finest guitarist and music writers. He has been a frequent visitor to Nairobi from 2015 collaborating with Ketebul Music and Tabu Osusa,” stated Cartoonist Paul Kelemba aka Maddo.
“Rest in power Mose Fan Fan, your breath has been cut short but your songs shall live forever, Kenya became your home and we will miss you Papa Lolo is one of your greatest hits,” wrote a fan on Twitter.
“Mose Fan Fan could play the guitar as well as Franco, led the OK Jazz when Franco was imprisoned. Came to East Africa, started several bands including Super Matimila & Makassy. A legend in every sense of the word. Gone but his legacy lives on,” posted another.
The musician reportedly loved Nairobi so much that he visited the country every year for the past three years.
