With Attorney General Githu Muigai slated to assume the office of the Chief Justice currently held by the maverick Dr.Willy Mutunga who’s retirement is nigh, the alignments & realignments within the echelons of power in the third arm of government that is the judiciary is playing out like a game of pre determined musical chairs.
It is clearly emerging that AG Githu Muigai will be the next Chief Justice, the position of AG will be occupied by long time friend & former PA to President Uhuru Kenyatta ; the hardliner & ill experienced Solicitor General Njee Muturi. A man who is said has never practiced law ever.
In a belated bid to appease & coerce communities that have have been deemed to give JAP & the ruling elite lukewarm reception ;two city lawyers are in contention for the coveted position.
Lawyers Evans Monari a Kisii is supported by DP Ruto & his URP wing especially after a sterling performance at The Hague in defense of Ruto is set to be the solicitor general although State House seems to be in support of the youthful city lawyer George Kithi ; a Giriama who has cut a niche for himself for representing high profile clients & an enviable track record.
As to whether the new line up will reform the image of the judiciary or play to the whims of the powers that be….is a guess that’s as good as anybody’s.Only time will tell .
