Governor Joho’s LAWYER Ahmednassir TELLS OFF Police boss over Cancelled firearms License, says decision political

Date:

ODM deputy leader and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has written to Police boss Joseph Boinnet seeking a review of the decision to cancel his firearms license.

In the letter to Boinnet, Joho’s lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi argues that the move by the Chief Firearms Licensing Officer, a Mr Kimaru to cancel the license was higly political.

“Kimaru was influenced in making his decision by the by-election result of Malindi which was won by Cord and which our client played a prominent role,” the letter reads in part.

Joho says the police/Kimaru erred as they did not give him a fair hearing pursuant to Article 47 of the Constitution which provides that “every person has the right to administrative action that is expeditious, efficient, lawful, reasonable and procedurally fair.”

It all started last Wednesday when Governor Joho received a letter from Kimaru ordering him to surrender his guns to the nearest police station.

The National Police Service on Saturday said he had surrendered one of the firearms and that he was expected to surrender the remaining ones by Sunday. The gives Joho maximum 14 days to surrender the guns.
