Vocal Nominated Member of Parliament Godfrey Osotsi is now on the verge of losing his seat in the National Assembly.
This is after the Registrar of Political Parties wrote to the Amani National Congress (ANC), which nominated Osotsi, confirming that the MP had been removed from the party’s register as earlier directed by ANC.
Osotsi, who has been embroiled in court battles with ANC since he was stripped off his Secretary General position, however has the option of contesting the process of his removal from the party in court.
In March this year, at a Special National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, the Musalia Mudavadi-led party adopted a report by its disciplinary committee recommending the expulsion of the nominated MP over claims of misuse of the party’s funds when he served as Secretary General before the 2017 General Election.
The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), however, reinstated Osotsi as ANC Secretary General after he contested his removal terming it as irregular.
ANC then filed an appeal at the High Court challenging that decision, following which Osotsi’s lawyers filed an application for a judicial review of the process the party followed in kicking him out.
The High Court on April 30 overturned the decision by the PPDT ruling that it was wrong in entertaining the case by Osotsi, further adding that he had not exhausted the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanism.
Two days later, Osotsi officially resigned as Secretary General of ANC accusing the party of “consistently, deliberately and malicious” withholding essential information that would enable him to respond to the charges leveled against him and facilitate his application for an appeal or review.
