A Jubilee MP has sensationally claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have failed Kenyans and will face difficulties in their re-election bid in next year’s polls.
Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki, who was elected on The National Alliance’s (TNA) ticket, said the public has lost confidence with the Jubilee Government for showing no commitment to the promises it made during the 2013 election campaigns.
He said the failure by Jubilee to win a ward seat in a by-election in Bomet recently is a clear indication the public is fed up with empty promises.
“There is a big public outcry in the whole country including in Deputy President William Ruto’s backyard, because the government has done nothing,” said Mr Mbiuki.
Mr Mbiuki was speaking during a burial ceremony of Mugo Mutegi in Mutindwa village in Maara on Saturday.
NOT FULFILLED PROMISES
The Mp said the government has not tarmacked the 10,000 kilometres of roads in rural areas as it had promised, nor has it given laptops to primary school pupils.
He said Jubilee’s strong holds like Rift Valley and Tharaka-Nithi have not benefited at all from the government forcing locals to get back to old parties like Kanu.
In Tharaka-Nithi, Mr Mbiuki said locals were still waiting for the tarmacking of Chogoria- Mutindwa road that Mr Ruto said would start by April 2015 and construction of a new secondary school in Kathangacini, Tharaka North.
“Even the Jubilee loyalists have started fleeing it because they have nothing to show their support for,” he said.
Mr Mbiuki said the challenge Jubilee is facing in the ongoing by-elections should be a wake-up call.
KILLING DEMOCRACY
On Jubilee coalition plans to merge affiliate parties, the Mp said this could be a plot to kill democracy in the country.
“There has never been fairness in the history of party nominations in Kenya, and only few people will benefit from the new outfit,” said the lawmaker.
He asked leaders to embrace multiparty and stop getting the country back to a single party regime and encouraged Kenyans to elect leaders based on their qualifications and not parties.
“Last time Kenyans ended up electing wrong leaders because of party politics,” he said.
He faulted the Meru County politicians for embarrassing governor Peter Munya during Mr Ruto’s recent visit in the county.
“You didn’t expect Mr Munya to feel free in a meeting where almost everybody is endorsing Senator Kiraitu Murungi to vie for gubernatorial position come 2017 before the Deputy President,” said Mr Mbiuki.
He maintained that all parties including the small ones should not be dissolved so as to enhance democracy in the country.
