US ambassador Robert Godec paid H.E. Raila Odinga a courtesy call at his Capitol hill offices. He commended him for agreeing to work together with Uhuru Kenyatta to heal the divisions in the country. He pledged US full support for the initiative.
The US has pledged to support Kenya’s unity and peace initiative marked by the handshake by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition chief Raila Odinga.
Raila, who is Nasa supreme leader, announced this on Wednesday following a meeting with ambassador Robert Godec.
“Godec paid me a courtesy call at my office today. We discussed the national reconciliation initiative and how there can be no progress without justice,” he wrote on his Twitter page.
“The US has pledged to support us as we proceed with the task of righting the wrongs that have ailed us for far too long.”
US President Donald Trump weighed in on Kenya’s political troubles after the government shut down TV stations over Raila’s self-inauguration as the People’s President. At that time, Trump asked the government to ensure media freedom and avoid restrictive and intimidating moves.
