Sources close to the 32 year old Nominated MP, former National Chairman – TNA and Chairman of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association indicated that he had politely declined to be Peter Kenneth’s running mate for fear of being seen as having endorsed the tribal candidature of Peter Kenneth which is being pushed by a powerful cabal of Mount Kenya businessmen.
Instead, the ambitious Sakaja has opted to run for the Nairobi Senate which will effectively give him oversight powers on the governor of Nairobi. Sakaja becomes the first prominent individual to declare interest in the Nairobi Senate seat which is presently occupied by Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko who has declared his interest for the gubernatorial seat. Sakaja will now face off for the JP ticket with former Wiper stalwart Mutinda Kavemba.
Sakaja made the announcment at a press conference at the Jubilee Party Headquarters in Nairobi surrounded by supporters and fellow legislators when presenting his senate nomination papers.
The Jubilee Nairobi gubernatorial race is now a two horse race between Senator Sonko and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.
