PRESS STATEMENT
UPDATE ON THE ONGOING PARTY PRIMARIES
The National Elections Board of the ODM Party wishes to thank our party members and aspirants in the Counties where we have so far held our primaries since we began the exercise on Thursday 13th April 2017 for the peaceful manner they have carried themselves during the exercise. The Board has not heard of any cases of violence and disruptions and we thank our members for this.
Although there have been a few cases of complaints from some aspirants and isolated cases of irregularities reported, the Board has been dealing with them as they come and made decision on most of them.
Yesterday, Tuesday 18th April 2017, the National Elections Board of the ODM Party made the decision to push forward the scheduled nominations exercise in the five Coastal Counties of Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu from today 19th April 2017 to Saturday 22nd April 2017. The Board is happy that party members and aspirants in the five Counties have respected the decision and have adjusted accordingly to the new date.
The Board has finalized preparations for primaries in Kisii County tomorrow 20th April 2017 and a repeat of the exercise in Kajiado North Constituency which was called off yesterday due to a technical hitch.
A repeat exercise had also been ordered in Matungu Constituency and Butsotso East Ward in Lurambi, Butali/Chegulo Ward in Malava and Nzoia Ward in Likuyani Constituency all in Kakamega County for tomorrow 20th April 2017. Preparations for the exercise in these areas are also complete.
About the cancellation of election at St. Monica polling station in Kitengela Ward of Kajiado East Constituency, the Board is deliberating on the matter and will make a decision on which day the exercise will be repeated.
The Board wishes to announce that election materials to the areas where the exercise will be held tomorrow have already been dispatched and Returning Officers together with their Presiding Officers and Clerks instructed to ensure material is in polling on time in readiness for the exercise. Polling stations will open at 6 in the morning and close at 5pm.
We wish to state to our members and aspirants in the counties where nominations have not been held and are scheduled for the coming days that NO ELECTION material has been dispatched to those areas yet. They should be patient and wait to take part in the exercise on designated dates.
Thank you and God Bless Kenya
