Lucy’s story exposes the deep scars left by childhood trauma and the long road many survivors face while trying to rebuild their lives.
Now a mother of three, Lucy says her life changed forever when she was just 11 years old. At that age, she says she was abused by someone who should have protected her the most, her own father.
The incident shattered her childhood and left emotional wounds that would follow her for years.
Her father was later arrested and imprisoned, but the damage had already been done. The family eventually relocated to Thika in an attempt to start over. But for Lucy, the psychological trauma continued to shape her life.

She dropped out of school while still in Class Eight, struggling to cope with painful memories and the instability that followed the family’s move.
Lucy says the trauma pushed her into a cycle of unhealthy relationships during her teenage years and early adulthood. She explains that many of the men she encountered took advantage of her vulnerability instead of helping her heal.
According to Lucy, the emotional scars from her childhood made it difficult for her to trust others or build stable relationships. She says she often felt lost, struggling with self worth and trying to escape memories of the abuse she experienced.
Over time, Lucy became a mother of three children with different partners. But each relationship ended painfully. Some of the men abandoned her while others became abusive.
Today Lucy says she has come to understand that the trauma she experienced as a child continues to affect many parts of her life.
Despite everything she has gone through, Lucy says she is now determined to change her path.
She is seeking help to rebuild her life, heal from her past, and find stability for herself and her children.
Her story highlights a painful reality faced by many survivors of childhood abuse. Experts say trauma experienced at a young age can affect education, relationships, mental health, and economic stability later in life.
Child protection advocates say cases like Lucy’s also reveal the urgent need for stronger support systems for victims including counseling services, social protection programs, and community awareness.
For Lucy, the journey toward healing is still ongoing.
But she says sharing her story is part of reclaiming her voice.
“I want my life to change,” she says.
“I want peace for myself and my children.”
