PUBG MOBILE and Infinix have officially launched one of Kenya’s biggest university esports tournaments, targeting student gamers across the country with cash prizes, gaming smartphones and national recognition.
Dubbed the PUBG MOBILE Varsity Showdown (PMVS), the nationwide tournament will run from mid-May to late June 2026 and is expected to bring together university gamers from different campuses in an intense battle for esports glory.
The tournament, announced in Nairobi, is being powered by Infinix, the smartphone company behind the GT Series gaming lineup designed specifically for competitive mobile gaming and high-performance gameplay.
According to the organizers, participants will also get an opportunity to experience the newly launched Infinix GT 30 Pro, a gaming-focused device engineered to support smooth performance, fast response times, advanced cooling capabilities and immersive visuals for esports competition.
The partnership also comes as Infinix prepares to introduce the anticipated GT 50 Pro into the Kenyan market, signaling the company’s growing investment in Kenya’s rapidly expanding gaming culture and esports ecosystem.
The competition will feature several stages including online qualifiers, quarterfinals, semifinals and an offline grand finale whose official date is yet to be announced.
Each participating squad will consist of four players and one substitute, with official PUBG MOBILE tournament rules and scoring systems expected to govern the matches throughout the competition.
Participants will compete for a USD 1,000 prize pool alongside 10 Infinix GT 30 Pro smartphones and campus bragging rights as organizers seek to position the tournament among the country’s top university gaming events.
Beyond the competition itself, the campaign will also feature campus ambassador programs, community gaming engagements, weekly online mini tournaments, creator-driven social media campaigns and user-generated content challenges designed to grow Kenya’s youth esports culture.
Organizers say the objective is not only entertainment but also creating opportunities for young Kenyan gaming talent to showcase skills, creativity and competitive ability in a rapidly growing digital industry.
University students across Kenya have now been encouraged to form squads and register for the tournament as registration officially opens online.
