The Busia Governor hopeful Hon Dr Paul Otwoma starts his thanks giving rallies today. He will tour the following:
Teso North constituency
Nambale Constituency
Butula constituency
Meanwhile Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo has expressed fears that the “blatant rigging” of ODM primaries in Busia will be repeated in Siaya.
Midiwo claimed county elections board members are allied to some leaders in the county headed by Cornel Rasanga.
The legislator said on Friday that they are likely to interfere with the nominations set for April 24.
Rasanga is facing stiff competition from rivals including from Senator James Orengo, businessman William Oduol, former PS Carey Orege and Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo. Orengo is a close ally of party leader Raila Odinga.
“I am asking party officials and the elections board to allow democracy in the nominations to curb any fallout that might lead to voter apathy in ODM strongholds,” he said.
Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and Funyula MP Paul Otwoma’s results were nullified after the latter and his supporters poured into the streets of Busia town to protest.
Otuoma led from the time the results started trickling in but Ojaamong took over by a wide margin after results from Teso South and Teso North were received. The party wants the exercise repeated but Otuoma has not been open to this.
Midiwo asked the board to give Otuoma the governor certificate, saying he won. He added that Ojaamong’s agents and board officials should be charged for rigging the vote.
