BREAKING SAD: Police Kill One Person in Siaya During Ant-IEBC Chiloba Demonstrations

Date:

One person died after choking on teargas during anti-IEBC demonstrations in Siaya county on Monday.

The Opposition said protests will take place on Mondays and Fridays for the removal of IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba. The demonstrations are also being held in opposition to amendments to electoral laws.

The protests turned chaotic when the demonstrators approached the electoral agency’s offices on Monday to drop a petition at which point Police officers hurled tear gas canisters.

Governor Cornel Rasanga and Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi led the group.

The body was still lying near the Rasanga’s office by press time.

Police fired tear gas at opposition supporters in Nairobi who were calling for officials they blame for last month’s botched presidential elections to be sacked, Reuters witnesses said.

A re-run is due to be held October 26 after the Supreme Court voided the August 8 vote due to irregularities. The court criticised election on procedural grounds but did not find any individual at the secretariat responsible.

Police also fired teargas to disperse protesters in Kisumu, according to another Reuters witness.

In Migori, a determined lost carried on with demonstrations despite teargas and the sound of gunshots.

Businesses were paralysed in Kisumu after police and demonstrators clashed.
