Raila Odinga’s super grounds man in Nairobi Mr Ahmed Papa declaration that he will be vying for Langata parliamentary seat on ODM ticket has set allies of DP William Ruto into jostling for Jubilee ticket on who best stands a chance to clinching the seat.
DP Ruto is reported to be mobilising Kalenjins to register in the constituency and is likely to prevail on president Uhuru to sit down any Jubilee member from Kikuyu community who may interest in the constituency. Ruto has previously endorsed one of his aides Nixon Korrir BUT things seem to change fast for the blue eyed boy as top Kalenjins express interest and demand DP open up the field the best Kalenjin to win.
The DP is desperate to stump authority in the city and this is part of his 2022 presidential agenda hoping to start creating abase in the city, he desperately needs a person who can mobilize in the ghetos of Nairobi (Kibaki had the Late Hon David Mwenje and Hon Maina Kamanda, Raila had Hon Mugabe Were, Fred Gumo and Reuben Ndolo WHILE Uhuru has Ferdinard Waititu and Mike Sonko).
It is a fact to be president one must garner at least 40% of the city vote. Nairobi politics is currently dominated by Kikuyu, Luo, Luyha, Kamba and Kisii.
Kalenjins in Nairobi seem not to be interested with the DP’s call however some mostly the elite have urged the DP to make the nomination a level playing field and should not favour any of his friends.
Some of the Kalenjins who are rumoured to eye the seat include:
1.Donald Kipkorir-city celebrity feel good, feel rich lawyer. Not sure if he can step in the slums to mobilise the hardcore base
2.Simon Kimutai-Matatu Owners Association- this is the man DP needs to mobilise the slums, a hardcore Mungiki fighter!
3.Steve K Kewa- a leading Jubilee Online warrior and former UN employee, a good grounds man and got guts to get dirty- the right ingredient for City Politics
4.Nixon Korir- former Youth Advisor to DP Ruto, fairly elitists and may not have much time for slum fishing
5.Robert Kipkemboi- a Nairobi based mini-businessman
6.Katwa Kigen- ICC Lawyer and counsel to DP Ruto co accused Journalist Joshua Sang. This one can do well, from the looks counsel Katwa is ready for a fight any time!
DP Ruto is also targeting several MCA seats, with Mr Donnie Langat-of KEMRI tagged for South C ward.
