In a desperate quest to eliminate Governor Ali Hassan Joho from Kenya’s political equation, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s relentless pursuit the ODM Deputy Party Leader has now moved across the border into Uganda.
Last weekend, the secretive arrival of Kenyatta’s special aide Jomo Gecaga at Entebbe International Airport on board a private jet and his smooth transfer to the exclusive Kampala Serena in three nondescript SUVs, marked the start of the fifth phase of what is now being deemed as a personal vendetta the Kenyan president holds against the fast rising Mombasa Governor.
Gecaga, Chief of Staff, Personal Secretary, and nephew of Kenyan President, was in Kampala for a special mission. It is a culmination of what has been a long and bitter feud with the Governor which has seen Governor Joho and his family incessantly hounded for the better part of one year by state agencies.
With the failure of the state to prosecute Joho using a forged KCSE result slip, the Kenyatta regime has moved to ressurect the case of Joho’s Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a desperate plea to Kampala University to write a letter to say that Joho’s degree was under investigation.
Gecaga reportedly offered a staggering Kshs100 million (Ushs 3.5 billion) compensation to the campus vice-chancellor if he would prepare a letter to the effect that they were probing Joho’s admissioning criteria into the Kampala university and his eventual degreee award, an offer that was swiftly rejected and reported to Uganda’s higher education authorities. The sensitive matter is now being handled from State House in Uganda.
Gecaga has since quietely returned to Kenya and reported on the embarassing failure of his mission to Uganda. The move has sparked alarm within the Ugandan national government with advisors of President Yoweri Museveni imploring their boss to urge his Kenyan counterpart to drop his feud against Joho and focus on his 2017 re-election bid which is under serious threat by a ressurgent and united opposition.
A source within State House Nairobi indicated that sharp divisions had emerged within the top echelons of the Jubilee administration with senior functionaries backing the recommendation of the Ugandan counterparts. This comes against the backdrop of intelligence report pointing to a prevailing risk on the credibility of state institutions which were being used to fight Joho now being put into serious jeopardy in the eyes of Kenyans and the international community.
So desperate have authorities in Kenya become that the privately owned and accredited Gresa University which was the first academic institution to speak in Joho’s defence was itself forced to defend admission of Governor Joho to study for his second Bachelors degree now risks closure after being denied renewal of letter of interim authority that is reportedly awaiting conclusion of assessment of quality audit inspection reports.
Joho yesterday narrowly escaped an apparent assasination attempt in Migori County in which one of his guards was shot and injured in the leg while his car had several bullet holes and shattered windscreen.
