Former ruling party Kanu has said its candidate won the Kericho by-election by more than 100,000 votes.
The independence party said that tallying done by its officials confirmed that Paul Sang won by 126,000 votes against Aaron Cheruiyot’s 33,000.
However, party chairman Gideon Moi said the Jubilee Alliance Party and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) rigged the election in favour of Cheruiyot. IEBC announced Cheruiyot the winner with 109,358 votes against Sang’s 56,397.
“Our parallel data indicate that our candidate Paul Sang won by 126,000 votes against JAP Cheruiyot’s 33,000 votes but we are not going to court because we don’t have faith in the Judiciary,” Salat said.
Moi said the election was rigged to save Deputy President William Ruto’s face. Ruto camped in Kericho for several days to ensure JAP wins the seat.
The Baringo Senator thanked the people of Kericho for showing support to Kanu candidate Paul Sang despite their ‘win being stolen’.
“The people of Kericho supported us and we are going back to thank them for standing with us as we prepare another duel in 2017,” Gideon said.
Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat said Jubilee coalition worked with IEBC to manipulate the outcome.
“The geometric progression formula ensured that every vote cast for JAP candidate was multiplied by 1.5 to gain undue advantage,” he stated.
He said this alleged rigging was conducted in a different command centre set up by Jubilee Alliance Party.
“JAP had a command centre far away from Kericho where electronic results were being generated and we know they rigged to save face for DP William Ruto,” Salat said.
Kanu however stated they would not be petitioning the win of Aaron Cheruiyot who was elected Senator garnering 109,358 votes.
