One half of the country feels let down by successive regimes in resource allocation, they constantly head to the polls every five years hoping their voice will count and their day in the sun will come.
Another half does the same, but for a different reason; to preserve the status quo and keep the other half miles away off the feeding trough. The one-half that feels disenfranchised accepts the fact that they will never get close to political power, and hence equitable allocation of resources to their zones.
They constantly petition the other half to kindly find a way of listening to their cries for a more just and equitable society but the other half slaps their concerns off and tightens their grip.
They unleash terror on those asking for fairness and justice, they tell them to keep the peace or they will be mowed down by state brutality. They say power shall rotate between them until 2032 before we can even dream of coming back to speak to them, and there is nothing we can do about that.
The other half says there is no difference between suffering in false peace and standing up for eternal freedom. The privileged half rises up and starts accusing them of treason, telling them to cool down the freedom talk or face the full force of the law.
The oppressed half responds by telling them to give us liberty, or give us death.
