Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday revealed his last conversation with the late Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei two days before he was found murdered.
Ruto said he summoned Kenei’s superiors including his head of security or escort commander a Mr Yeimboi to his office on Monday, February 17, 2020, seeking to find out what exactly transpired when Echesa visited his force.
“We met on Monday of the week that he was found murdered. That Monday, when I arrived at the office, I summoned the head of security as well as the person in charge of escort in that office.
“The two came into my office and I wanted to know what had taken place on the previous Thursday because that Monday was my first day at the office (since the meeting reportedly took place).
“The two briefed me about the occurrences and backed their claims with CCTV footage. Since Kenei had colleagues in the same department, I called all three into my office and asked them what had transpired at the office and they told me.
“Kenei told me that it was true he knew Echesa and he had received a call informing him that the former CS and his colleagues would be coming to the office because they had an appointment and he ushered them to the waiting room. Since investigations were still underway, I told them I needed the truth,” narrated Ruto.
The DP said he directed them to record statements with the DCI and that was the last interaction he had with Kenei.
Ruto said he went back to his office on Thursday and asked to meet the officers on duty one more time regarding the firearms scandal.
It was at this point that the DP made a phone call to enquire the whereabouts of Kenei, including reaching out to some of his kin.
“After two hours we found out that he had been killed,” said Ruto.
The DP said his killers would never know peace and should face the full force of the law.
Ruto said he is aware that there is a huge scheme that has been orchestrated to destroy his office and his future plans but asked those responsible to leave others out of it.
“You may have the system but we have God and the blood of this innocent man will not go scot free [sic],” he remarked.
A visibly furious DP also took time to lash out at DCI boss George Kinoti telling him to focus on his investigative work.
“Look for the truth…put aside politics. The DCI is being used to undermine my office. Many of them are not ashamed to say Ruto will not be there in 2022 yet they are walking around.
“This man lying here was my officer and he has died because of the dirty tricks going around,” he remarked, distancing his office from the procurement of guns.
Phil @phil_254 says: Echesa is DP Ruto’s prodigy and close political ally, everyone knows that! Disowning Echesa then conveniently shifting blame to a dead Kenei “for breaching office security” and collaborating with conmen is disingenuous to say the least. This is your baby. #RipKenei
Mc Donald @mc_oduorreagan6 says: #RipKenei Dp @ WilliamsRuto has done an example Adolf hitler gave to his solders regarding the hen. You sterve the hen, pluck its feathers wihile its alive and at that desperate moment feed it. The hen will see you as a hero yet you caused its pain.
Donald B Kipkorir @DonaldBKipkorir says : Our Living God whom we worship vows that the cries of widows reach Him & He answers them … The Cries for vengeance by the widow of Kipyegon Kenei will be answered.. And our God is beyond bribe or false piety … Men maybe misled .. Men maybe bribed .. but not God … #RipKenei
