The government is using the forthcoming national examinations to push for an earlier date for the fresh elections, a move that has put it in collusion path with NASA and other stakeholders.
Yesterday, Education CS Fred Mataingi revealed the government had told the IEBC to conduct the election on or before the 17 October. Moments later, IEBC confirmed the date as the set date for the election.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has however dismissed the move, saying exams can wait.
“The government must stop using school children as pawns. School children must be kept away from Jubilee politics. If they cared about national exams they should never have rigged the election in the first place,” said Owino.
“We want exams to be done, but those exams are meant to improve the lives of children and increase their future prospects. Let parents remember that doctors, nurses, teachers, lecturers etc have been on strike, many of whom did exams and scored highest marks,” he added.
NASA Leader Raila Odinga has said the exams will be pushed to give the students ample time to prepare.
