In last week’s tour of Ukambani Statehouse elevated Nairobi senator Mike Sonko to the Most Valuable Politician (MVP status) from Ukambani, the popular senator was by the side of the president in the entire trip and also flew together with the president in Airforce One.
During the road trips, in all marketing/shopping centres where the president’s entourage made a stop-over to address locals Senator Sonko was excused by Protocol together with the deputy president to address and wave supporters from the open roof of their fuel guzzler (see pictures)
The body language between Sonko and Uhuru is very much telling leaving man to speculate that uhuru may prevail upon DP Ruto to pick on Sonko as his running-mate in 2022.
The close relationship between Uhuru is also troubling for Dagoretti South MP Hon Dennis Waweru who is aiming for endorsement to run against Kidero in the 2017 governor race. There are signals that Uhuru may support Sonko for Nairobi governor seat is when fact the president often prefers to run errands through Sonko.
During Kasarani’s event to celebrate 15 years of Kameme FM presenter Njogu Njoroge, the president passed his message via Sonko instaed of Devolution Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri as per protocol.
Back to Ukambani, the preferential treatment Sonko received is said to have not gone so well for Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua who had hoped that the absence of Kalonzo Musyoka and Charity Ngilu could offer him visibility but was surprised to see protocol officers upgrade Sonko to a Kamba supremo.
