COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli has revealed that his life is under threat from unknown hit men who allegedly have orders to eliminate him.
Addressing the media in Kisumu on Saturday morning, Atwoli disclosed that he is well aware of plans to end his life.
He linked the threats on his life to politics and his recent Labor day celebrations comments in which he supported the push for constitutional amendments, stating that he had no problem with President Uhuru Kenyatta ascending to the position of Prime Minister upon the expiry of his current term.
“If you came to government or politics another day and then you are convinced that eliminating me will make you achieve your own goals that might deter your ambitions and everything that you want to achieve.” Atwoli said.
Atwoli noted that his comments may not have gone well with some people.
”You can agree with me and if you disagree with me it doesn’t mean that you should plan to eliminate me.
This time they would have met somebody who is aware, and who also networks very well …and who is inside the system.” Atwoli added.
The trade union boss sounded a warning to the hitmen stating that “wherever they are they should be informed that they will be met by more force than what is normally known as equal force if they think they are real hit men.”
Atwoli thanked the government for promising to put measures in place to ensure that whoever attempts to end his life is dealt with accordingly.
Following the threat on his life, Atwoli disclosed that multiple sources are working to protect his life.
