Execution of contracts, leases, assignments and processing of payments and all other functions that require the approval of the county executive committee have been put to hold in Nairobi County until a new County Government is in place.
According to a memo sent to all county Chief Officers and directors, at this moment the county is expecting a new executive owing to the election of Mike Mbuvi Sonko as the new Nairobi governor, and until this new group has been sworn in, all the their functions have been suspended
This, they say, will be able to curb any fraudulent deals that officers of the previous regime may want to execute illegally to loot county funds and to further ease the accountability of bank accounts when the new team assumes office
This followed a protest letter by Nairobi Governor-elect, Mike Sonko, through his lawyers to the transition committee demanding halting of further transactions by the City County Government of Nairobi.
On Tuesday, August 15, Nairobi Governor-elect, Mike Sonko, had asked outgoing Governor, Dr. Evans Kidero, not to withdraw any funds from the City County account with the Central Bank of Kenya.
Sonko also wanted Kidero not to remove any materials from City Hall or any other Nairobi County Office items.
Sonko will be sworn in as the Governor of Nairobi on Monday, August 21.
