Ruto’s first experiment has failed, selling Tanga Tanga to the coastal community is like selling ice cream to the Eskimos.
The Coast listened to Jaramogi more than Ronald Ngala during their heydays. The Coast was bade chieko’s second home after Luo Nyanza. In Jaramogi they saw a hero and a savior. They trusted him with their future and always prevailed upon their sons to walk with Oginga Kodinga and not Jomo. The boys did obey that command to the letter.
When the time for transition came, occasioned by the demise of the voice of the voiceless,Oginga Ajuma in 1994, the Mijikenda wholeheartedly embraced the best alternative, the one and only social democrat, yes, his pekness Amolo Tinga. If anything, mtoto wa Simba ni Simba, so says an intelligently corrupted adage,that’s common among the Swahili speakers at the Coast!
The Coast has stood with Baba dating back to the days when some sellouts like Karisa Maitha were the Kingpins. In Jakom they religiously trust.
Now with the birth of the new coastal supremo, the extremely talented King Joho, himself a political student of the Engineer of Politics,H.E. Baba, it will take Ruto a Century to make any meaniful inroads into the entire coastal region.
If the Sugoi boss sticks with the political remnants like Ms Viuno, to champion his experimental overtures at the Coast, then even a Century is not enough. That Century must come with miracles fervently prayed for by Prophet Owuor,otherwise it will remain a mission impossible!
