Word doing rounds in the high streets of power confirm that the official title for People’s president Raila Odinga is “His Excellence The Supreme Leader”. Effectively the international media will refer The Rt Hon Odinga thus “Kenya’s Supreme Leader His Excellence Engineer Raila A Odinga”.

The New title is said to be part of protocol changes being worked by the top bureaucrats and will be rolled out soon. Other notable changes include the elevation of Raila to a global icon/ambassador at large with an office and staff and will be engaged in several international assignments for both the country and United Nations.

The Supreme Leader will also hold regular consultations with the presidents and will have veto power on major policy changes including international borrowing and deployment of Kenya Defence Forces (he will have persuasive power over key government decisions).

Opposition leader Raila Odinga holds a bible aloft after swearing an oath during a mock “swearing-in” ceremony at Uhuru Park in downtown Nairobi, Kenya Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018. Odinga was sworn-in as “the people’s president” during a mock “inauguration”, in protest of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s new term following the divisive 2017 election, and despite the government’s warning that the event would be considered treason.
