Uhuru has betrayed the Kalenjin community-DP Ruto ally Hon Shollei cries

Date:

Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei has said that Rift Valley region feels it has been betrayed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

She made the sentiments on Sunday during an interview on ‘Punchline’ hosted by Anne Kiguta.

The first-time legislator contended that the sense of betrayal was being fed by the president’s apparent silence on supporting Ruto’s presidential bid in 2022.

She, however, was quick to note that it is the people of Kenya who will determine who will be the country’s next president and not individuals.

“I think it is important to make this clear and we have seen in our history. No one can stop another person from being president. The only person who can stop anyone is the people of Kenya who go to those queues, ” she said.

“And when you talk about this is it meant to stop Ruto from the presidency? Yes, that is the feeling out there… That is the voice of the people from Uasin Gishu and most of Rift Valley. They also feel betrayed because the president said publicly that he would support Ruto when his term ends, “she added.

Shollei held the view that the people of Rift Valley came out in their numbers because of Ruto.

After the handshake, President Uhuru has not been as vocal as he had been about supporting his deputy’s 2022 bids, sparking fears that he may renege on his promise.
