Journalists attending President Uhuru Kenyatta’s event at Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County, were on Saturday morning, February 1, chased from the venue.
A correspondent in Kirinyaga told this reporter that members of the public who were also not on the chief’s list were not allowed in the event. The journalists were told by a senior police officer that the President wanted to talk in local Gikuyu language off camera.
The president is expected to address a public rally at the stadium after his visit to Mwea Rice Mill and Mwea Rice Growers Multipurpose Limited.
Later the journalists were allowed inside the stadium to cover the public event. Uhuru, who has been touring Mt Kenya region is acting like a wounded bull out to vanquish madoa doa from his backyard. Intelligence reports indicate that Uhuru was growing unpopular among his Kikuyu community mainly because of the collapsed economy.
The president, on January 31, 2020, declared he will be launching and inspecting development projects by himself a signal that he had completely falled out with his deputy William Ruto. There are also indications that some Statehouse officials are on the spot over stalled projects.
“There is a main road here that has no electricity, including those houses where we started. There’s no electricity and no… I have refused, It won’t go like that. We shall revisit. We will not keep sending people, I told them that I kept sending them, but they would come back with their stories, so now I’ll be the one bringing mine, I will not send anyone.
“I’ll come to see for myself, you give people respect but they throw mud at you, but no problem. And I keep telling them, whatever you do to get what belongs to you. If the public is not satisfied, you are cursed in their eyes, true or false?” Uhuru lamented.
