When Raila Odinga once checked into the Nairobi Hospital for surgery, his supporters largely followed the news about it with calm and silence, consuming the updates in peace. The media had access to Jakom and his doctors.
The “other side” of course waited for negative news so they could celebrate, but Raila supporters treated this with amazing nonchalance. When it was all done, Subdural Hematoma, the condition for which Raila had checked in for surgery, became an online butt of jokes among his supporters. Cool and calm.
Yesterday, there were rumours of William Ruto checking into the same hospital the previous night. The reaction of his supporters was really shocking. Raw, rabid, irrational anger, directed at anyone who dared suggest that Ruto could be taken ill! There was no attempt or desire to find out if indeed the cult god might be unwell, just murderous rage that anyone could imagine Superman collapsing and being admitted into hospital.
This reaction is interesting. Because in my view, this anger by Ruto supporters scares their Kikuyu partners more than it does the people it is directed at! Showing such cult allegiance and murderous anger serves to awaken the fears of their prospective 2022 partners more.
And will mean many more on the Mountain will be taking note that if there was ever any doubt that Ruto and his band of angry supporters should not be allowed anywhere near power, this anger over such a relatively small matter should serve as a reminder!
