Coast leaders join Jubilee in droves
MOMBASA, 12 March 2017 (PSCU) – President Uhuru Kenyatta today officially received Coast leaders who joined Jubilee in droves, proving that the region is not an Opposition zone.
At the event attended by Deputy President William Ruto, Governors Hussein Dado of Tana River and Salim Mvurya of Kwale led other leaders to join Jubilee, saying it is the party of unity and progress.
Other leaders who joined Jubilee from the Opposition were Deputy Governors Hazel Katana (Mombasa), Kenneth Kamto (Kilifi) and Fatuma Mohammed Achani (Kwale), Women Representatives Zainab Chidzuga (Kwale), Joyce Lay (Taita Taveta) and Halima Ware (Tana River).
Also received in Jubilee were Members of Parliament Dan Mwazo (Senator Taita Taveta), Gideon Mungaro (Kilifi North), Mustafa Idd (Kilifi South), Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga), Peter Shehe (Ganze), Masoud Mwahima (Likoni) and a host of Members of County Assembly from the six counties of the Coast region.
“We welcome these forward looking leaders who have decided to join us in developing this region. In Jubilee, we are saying we want to work with respectful leaders like Dado and Mvurya who know they were elected to serve not to lord it over the electorate,” President Kenyatta said.
He added: “As Jubilee, our aim is to unite the whole country and transform the lives of Kenyans in an inclusive way.”
President Kenyatta received the new members to Jubilee from the Opposition at Tononoka grounds where he addressed a huge rally.
The President pitched for his re-election based on his development track record.
The Head of State cited the significant progress his Administration has achieved in the last four years in the areas of energy, land, health, infrastructure, agriculture, water and security as the reason why he deserved a second term to continue transforming the country for the benefit of all Kenyans.
The President also asked Mombasa residents to vote for Suleiman Shahbal and Anania Mwaboza as Governor and Deputy Governor respectively, saying the current Governor has not done much to uplift the lives of the people of the Coast county.
He asked Governor Hassan Joho to tell Mombasa residents what he has done with the Kshs 40 billion that the county government has received from the National Government.
Deputy President Ruto commended the Coast leaders who joined Jubilee, saying that was a clear sign that the region is no longer ready to follow the divisive counter-productive politics of the Opposition.
Jubilee is focused on ensuring that all Kenyans are united and live together peacefully, the Deputy President said.
“That is why were are keen on working with Coast leaders and others from across the country who are focused on development,” the Deputy President said.
Other speakers were National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, Taveta MP Naomi Shaban and Cabinet Secretaries Najib Balala and Eugene Wamalwa among others.
