Of course I didn’t expect Kenya to take a stand in the UN resolution. Unlike countries like Tanzania and Nigeria that have historically taken a strong position on matters of justice and freedom, Kenya has always merely sided with oppression for short sighted economic gains.
Kenya enjoyed cordial relations with Apartheid South Africa so shamelessly that the South African foreign minister; Pik Botha was hosted here at the climax of the anti apartheid struggle. In other words while the entire world was shouting “Say no to apartheid!” we were hosting an agent of a regime that was oppressing and killing our brothers and sisters.
In fact it was a notable surprise that Jomo Kenyatta who had solid Pan African credentials before independence by standing with Ethiopia during the Italian invasion of the 30’s and even speaking for the liberation of many territories, made a complete about turn and turned Kenya into a mere vassal of Western interests under the guise of “Non interference”
