One person died and several others injured after a political rally attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Isiolo turned chaotic on Saturday.
This was after supporters of three governor aspirants in the county clashed prompting police to shoot in the air to disperse the crowd.
Isiolo referral hospital medical superintendent Stephen Kiluva said Mohammed Huka was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
He succumbed to bullet injuries.
Kiluva said another man was admitted to the hospital after he sustained serious head injuries.
Police said supporters of Abdul Bahari (Jubilee), incumbent Godana Doyo – who defected to the Party for Democracy and Reforms, and Senator Mohamed Kuti (Independent) engaged each other at the Isiolo stadium rally.
National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and area MP Joseph Samal were shut down by the youth as they tried to plead with them to calm down.
The President arrived in the middle of the fracas and had difficulties in delivering his speech as the youth wanted the matter addressed first.
On several occasions, the president had to pause and plead with the youth to calm down.
