Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has now admitted that Kenya’s direct flights to the United States are at risk over the events that took place during last week’s deportation of NRM General Miguna Miguna.
Matiang’i stated that the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) was being reviewed over its security level.
He added that there were several security lapses, including presence of journalists in a secure zone, that were likely to affect the country.
Non-stop flights
Direct flights from Nairobi to the USA were approved in January this year after years of lobbying by the Transport and Foreign Affairs Ministries.
Kenya Airways started selling tickets from January 11, 2018 for the inaugural flight to New York which is scheduled for October 28th this year.
Kenya Airways became the first airline to offer a non-stop flight between East Africa and the United States of America.
