Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission commissioner Roselyne Akombe says she’s ready to testify on what transpired in 2017 polls.
In the elections that defined Kenya’s history, Supreme Court nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory, with Kenya becoming the first country to have the polls nullified.
Before the repeat polls, IEBC, which had been accused of bungling the polls, suffered a huge fate following resignation of Dr Akombe, at the eve of polls.
A Twitter user Pius Kinuthia, on Saturday demanded to know why Dr Akombe, who potrays herself as a voice of reason, has failed to expose what hat happene.
“I have always had an issue with @DrRoselynAkombe who fools us by acting innocent over the fraudulent 2017 polls. Truth is,she was part of the gangs that oversaw the fraudulent polls. Yes the guilt ate her & she quit, but has she ever shared with us what exactly happened?” he wrote.
And in a response, Dr Akombe said she’s ready to testify on oath, adding that she had done a report which is yet to be made public by the commission.
According to her, she had proposed a Commission of enquiry, adding that he efforts are yet to bore fruits. The independent commission, she said, will help unearth the truth.
“Thank you for starting this excellent debate. You may be aware that I delivered my end of assignment report to @IEBCKenya. Among other topics, I called for an independent inquiry to the 2017 election. I am ready to testify under oath. Do your part. Get it set up, I will fly back,” she wrote.
Akombe quit in October 2017, days to repeat polls. She is currently working with United Nations and lives in New York. She has a dual citizenship.
Since then, President Uhuru Kenyatta has reconciled with Raila Odinga in what is known as handshake. The two set a committee know as BBI to investigate issues that should be fixed.
