Exiled lawyer and author Miguna Miguna has lashed out at Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i after he renewed his fight against drug trafficking at the Coast.
Speaking when he toured the area on Sunday, Matiang’i linked the increase of killer gangs terrorising residents to drug dealing and vowed to wipe out the criminal activity.
“There is a clear nexus between the recent Mombasa attacks and the movement of drugs in the region. Kenyans no longer want to hear tough talk — they want results, and we will deliver. We’ve launched a systematic security operation in the area, and I’m certain it will bear fruits,” the CS tweeted on Sunday.
Reacting to the remarks, Miguna said Matiang’i must match his words with actions by first dealing with the big fish in the narcotics trade.
“You cannot purport to “fight” drug trafficking when you dine with drug traffickers. Without charging, prosecuting, jailing and confiscating proceeds of drug peddling from Mwau, Joho, Kabogo, Wambui, Sonko, etc. all these are jokes,” the vocal lawyer tweeted .
A report tabled in Parliament in 2010 by then Internal Security and Provincial Administration Minister Prof George Saitoti, four prominent politicians and a tycoon were named as drug kingpins.
They included Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, his Nairobi counterpart Mike Sonko and former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo.
Others were former Kilome MP Harun Mwau and Mombasa businessman Ali Punjani.
However, they all denied the allegations saying it was a ploy by their rivals to soil their names.
