His tenure in the Ministry of Education was equally impactful, as he implemented strict reforms that restored credibility to the national examination system and enhanced the integrity of the education sector. Additionally, his role in the Ministry of Interior was marked by measures that strengthened national security and streamlined government operations.
David Kombo, the former Kisii County Assembly Speaker, emphasized Matiang’i’s commitment to service delivery and governance, stating, “As a son of the Gusii community and a proven servant of the Kenyan people, Matiang’i’s stellar track record speaks for itself.”
The elders also addressed criticism from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who suggested that Matiang’i’s reliance on ethnic and regional support might hinder his presidential ambitions. In response, the Kisii leaders dismissed these claims, asserting that their endorsement is merely a step to strengthen his backing at home, while his appeal extends beyond the Kisii community. “This is not about tribalism,” said elder John Nyang’au. “It’s about recognizing a leader who has proven his worth to the nation.”
