Former Raila aide Salim Lone EXPLAINS WHAT ODM can Learn from Bernie Sanders Iowa Caucus Historic Feat

OUR OWN BILLIONAIRE CLASS: A few have asked what Kenya can learn from Bernie’s historic feat, so here is a simple answer. We need for 2017 a sharply targeted political campaign like Bernie’s, which identifies a few key messages that resonate with ALL Kenyans without straying too much into all sorts of assorted issues.

Tell Kenyans that there is no reason why their compelling needs cannot be met,and that our country is rich enough for every Kenyan to enjoy the basics of health, education, housing and adequate income.

Back that up with concrete proposals and explain why this has not been done up to now. Basically, it’s because of the unbroken, 52 year long rule by the super-rich, who have kept Kenyans divided by promoting ethnic cleavages which camouflage the real causes of people’s deprivations.

This super rich class, despite the enormous wealth it has accumulated amidst unspeakable deprivations, is so greedy that it is still not satisfied and wants to loot some more. That is Democracy’s promise: change is possible, if elections are free and fair and the inevitable rigging is counteracted by the huge majority that ordinary Kenyans enjoy at the polls.
