President Uhuru Kenyatta has dealt a major blow to “Project Eugene” after he ruled out endorsement of aspirants in the yet to be launched Jubilee Party.
Kenyatta has said all candidates in the Jubilee Party will face off in primaries before the 2017 general election setting stage for a face-off between people’s favourite Senator Mike Sonko and Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa for the Nairobi Governor’s seat.
The President’s pronouncement also means Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu will not get State House backing in his quest to unseat Kiambu Governor William Kabogo in 2017.
Wamalwa who has only won election in …..after the death of his brother and the the late Vice President Kijana Wamalwa, is reportedly a project by Deputy President William Ruto who wants to control city politics ahead of his much publicized 2022 Presidential bid.
According to a latest poll by Radio Africa Group research team though computer-assisted telephone methodology, Sonko appears to be leading the race in the Nairobi Governor’s race with 31 percent of respondents saying they would vote for him while Kidero is close behind with 26 percent.
Behind them comes nominated MP and TNA chairman Johnson Sakaja with 10 percent support while 5 percent said they would vote for Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru.
Former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru, Water CS Eugene Wamalwa and Miguna Miguna, a former advisor to Raila Odinga, have each got one per cent support.
